As business and government leaders grapple with the promise of artificial intelligence, Advanced Office Systems is expanding its technology services to ensure its team and customers are poised to take full advantage of the emerging technology.
The 44-year-old family business has grown from a small Baton Rouge copier company to a statewide technology solutions provider, with additional locations in New Orleans and Alexandria.
After expanding into customized solutions, such as managed IT, network systems, healthcare solutions and cybersecurity, AOS is now taking the next step with AI tools and devices to advance companies’ security and efficiency.
AOS Vice President PJ Pokorney, who runs AOS with his father, Paul, and brother, Matt, sees AI applications for all the company’s products and services, and the uses are expanding all the time.
The company recently began offering “smart” AI security cameras that feature facial and image recognition. It’s also expanding its document imaging services to include an AI integration tool that will enable clients to easily organize and query vast amounts of data.
“A lot of people are afraid AI will replace humans. That’s not the case. People with AI training and AI efficiency will replace humans without AI training,” Pokorney said.
He compared the AI revolution to the dawn of the internet, when there was widespread uncertainty about how to harness its power for business.
“AI is going to be just as big a paradigm shift, so we want to make sure we get ahead of it and that we offer this technology to our clients,” Pokorney said. “If you don’t adapt to it, it’s going to pass you up.”
With new clients, AOS explains how customized technology solutions can improve their organization’s performance and efficiency.
“It’s amazing to find out most people’s processes have been in place for 20-plus years and haven’t changed a bit,” he said. “We want to dissect their workflow and how paper or communication moves through their company to see how our technology can speed it up or organize it better. We’re a total solutions provider.”
Pokorney said AOS is “putting tons of resources into AI” to handle the demand, hiring additional employees to boost his existing 62-person staff and ensuring they’re trained in the technologies.
The company serves a broad range of customers: private sector businesses, health care, schools, government agencies, various law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Louisiana and the legislature, among others.
“We experienced a lot more growth last year,” he said. “Within the past four years we experienced more growth than the last 40.”
Pokorney said he can almost pinpoint the day AOS started experiencing the growth it’s experiencing right now. It was when the leadership committed to creating a positive experience for their customers and employees, with the goal of keeping them for life.
“If we get it right with our employees, they’ll get it right with our customers. That’s been a game-changer for us,” he said.
