White House budget calls for $163B in federal cuts next year

On Friday, the White House released a partial budget proposal calling for $163 billion in cuts to federal spending in the next fiscal year, The Washington Post reports.

The proposed budget calls for cuts to education, health care and a slew of other government programs while also calling for a boost in spending on defense and homeland security.

The plan would codify many of the spending cuts already implemented this year by President Donald Trump or Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.

However, the ultimate fate of the cuts is up in the air for now, as the Trump administration has struggled to convince Republicans in Congress that even a small portion of the cuts should be enshrined into law, and the courts have ordered the White House to resume much of the spending.
