Superintendent Cole’s Challenge: ‘Dare to Be GREAT’ in 2025

Sponsored by East Baton Rouge Parish School System

As the East Baton Rouge Parish School System moves into 2025, Superintendent Lamont Cole is challenging students, educators and the community to “Dare to Be GREAT.” His bold vision for 2025 prioritizes academic excellence, operational efficiency and a culture of respect that will shape the future of education in East Baton Rouge.

By the end of this year, Superintendent Cole envisions a district that is academically stronger, more efficient and more connected to its community. His primary goal is for EBRPSS to earn a “B” rating under Louisiana’s accountability system, a milestone that signals meaningful progress in student achievement and school performance.

To achieve this, Cole is focusing on improving literacy and math proficiency, strengthening graduation rates and closing achievement gaps for at-risk students. He also aims to foster a culture of excellence where both students and educators are supported, challenged and celebrated for their success.

As the new year begins, Superintendent Cole’s message to teachers, staff, students and parents is clear: everyone plays a role in the district’s success. He encourages educators to embrace innovation, students to take ownership of their learning and parents to stay engaged in their child’s education.

“We are all partners in this journey,” Cole says. “Every teacher, every parent, every student has the power to contribute to something bigger. If we work together, we can create a district that truly serves students at the highest level.”

Superintendent Cole has identified five key pillars to guide EBRPSS toward becoming a ‘B’ rated district and beyond:

  • G-Globally Ready Students: Preparing students to compete in a global economy by integrating international perspectives, fostering adaptability and expanding high-quality educational choices.
  • R-Respectful Culture: Cultivating an environment where students, families and educators feel valued through personalized experiences, professional development and strong customer service.
  • E-Excellent Environments: Improving school facilities, expanding extracurricular activities and ensuring safe, engaging learning spaces for all students.
  • A-Accountable Systems: Utilizing data-driven decision-making, transparent financial management and employee training to foster a culture of responsibility and excellence.
  • T-Transformative Experiences: Reimagining education through innovative programs, industry partnerships and modernized school operations that enhance student learning and career readiness.

Under Cole’s leadership, EBRPSS has already made significant strides. The district’s performance score has reached its highest level yet under the state’s accountability system, and student growth remains strong. However, challenges persist, including declining enrollment, gaps in student achievement and inconsistent graduation rates. Addressing these concerns requires immediate action and long-term planning.

For Superintendent Cole, transforming EBR Schools is a community effort. He calls upon parents, educators, business leaders and local organizations to join the movement. Whether through mentorship, internships, volunteer work or advocacy, every stakeholder has a role to play in shaping the district’s future.

“As we turn vision into action, I issue one simple challenge to our community: Dare to be GREAT,” Cole states. “Let’s stretch our vision, elevate our work and reach for greatness—together.”

EBRPSS is on the path to lasting transformation, and the challenge is clear: Dare to Be GREAT. Through bold leadership, innovative strategies and strong community engagement, the district is working to ensure that every student receives a world-class education that prepares them for success in college, careers and life.
