Roundup: Rotary Club / US manufacturing / Retail trends 


    Guest speaker: Andrew Maas, LSU’s associate vice president for research overseeing the office of Innovation and Ecosystem Development, will speak at the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge on Wednesday afternoon. Maas, the principal investigator in the recently announced $160M NSF Engine award for Louisiana, will speak on the future of energy in Louisiana. The Rotary Club of Baton Rouge meets at noon each Wednesday at Drusilla Seafood. 

    Some improvement: A gauge of U.S. manufacturing edged up last month from an eight-month low in July amid some improvement in employment, but the overall trend continues to point to subdued factory activity. The Institute for Supply Management said on Tuesday that its manufacturing PMI rose to 47.2 in August from 46.8 in July, which was the lowest reading since November. Read more from Reuters.
