DEMCO official: Jeff Andry, chief strategy and regulatory officer for DEMCO, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday. In effect: An excessive heat warning is in effect for the Capital Region and most of south Louisiana through 7 p.m. as the National Weather Service predicts dangerously hot conditions to continue with heat index values up to 118 expected.
Taking aim: Hurricane Beryl began pounding the southeast Caribbean on Monday as a powerful Category 4 storm after becoming the earliest storm of that strength to form in the Atlantic, fueled by record warm waters.
