Roundup: Press Club speaker / Excessive heat warning/ Hurricane Beryl 


    DEMCO official: Jeff Andry, chief strategy and regulatory officer for DEMCO, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday. He will discuss a number of items affecting power delivery and wholesale contracts, hurricane season and storm readiness, and the Amite Solar Energy Center. The Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at Drusilla Place Catering, with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. and the program beginning at 12:15 p.m. Learn more about the event. 

    In effect: An excessive heat warning is in effect for the Capital Region and most of south Louisiana through 7 p.m. as the National Weather Service predicts dangerously hot conditions to continue with heat index values up to 118 expected. 

    Taking aim: Hurricane Beryl began pounding the southeast Caribbean on Monday as a powerful Category 4 storm after becoming the earliest storm of that strength to form in the Atlantic, fueled by record warm waters. Hurricane warnings were in effect for Barbados, Grenada, Tobago and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Read more from WBRZ-TV.
