Streamlining service: In a bid to reshape how Louisiana delivers workforce and social services, state lawmakers are proposing to merge disparate programs into a unified, streamlined system. Legislation introduced by a pair of Northshore Republicans—Reps. Stephanie Berault and Kim Carver—seeks to create a “One Door” model, where job training and public assistance programs like the Supplemental Nutritional Aid Program, Medicaid and the Temporary Aid to Needy Families program would be offered through a single point of entry. Accusation of nepotism: East Baton Rouge Parish School Board member Dadrius Lanus has been accused of violating state nepotism laws after his sister worked as a clerk at a Baton Rouge school during his tenure on the board. The Louisiana Board of Ethics voted on March 6 to charge Lanus with violating nepotism laws barring elected officials from employing immediate family while they hold office.
