    Diversity Star Award: The Baton Rouge Area Chamber at its third annual Economic Inclusion Symposium on Wednesday announced the winners of its Diversity Star Award: Capital Area United Way and Dow. Erin Monroe, chair of BRAC’s Economic Inclusion Council and Cox Communications market vice president, says the winning organizations’ dedication to creating inclusive corporate environments “enriches the entire Capital Region.” Read more.

    Coastal protection: The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana has expanded its oyster shell recycling initiative to Baton Rouge restaurants. Since 2014, CRCL has collected over 14 million pounds of oyster shells to construct reefs aimed at protecting Louisiana’s coastline. Program manager Darrah Bach says the initiative is a way for the public to become engaged with coastal protection efforts by doing something as simple as eating at a local restaurant.     Revitalization: The Metro Council at its Wednesday meeting approved a new 2% sales tax for the River Center Development District in downtown Baton Rouge. The new tax is one part of a larger effort to reposition the Raising Cane’s River Center as a convention center and construct a complementary headquarters hotel. Read more from WAFB-TV.
