FranU’s new professional development center has its first executive director

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University has appointed Laurinda Calongne as the inaugural executive director of the Franciscan Center for Professional Development.

The newly established center has a stated goal of helping health care professionals advance in their careers and enhance their skills by providing “practical, immediately applicable knowledge.” The center will begin hosting in-person events and offering online courses in mid-October and certifications will become available in 2025.

Calongne brings a “wealth of experience” to her new role, according to a statement from FranU. Notably, President George W. Bush in 2001 appointed her to the Council on Graduate Medical Education. She has also served as chief academic officer and designated institutional officer for Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

In her capacity as executive director of the new center, Calongne will create new educational programs in response to industry trends, lead the development and implementation of a strategic plan for professional development, and oversee recruitment and training efforts, among other duties.

“Dr. Calongne’s extensive background in education, leadership and strategic planning makes her uniquely qualified to lead the Franciscan Center for Professional Development into a new era of growth and excellence,” FranU’s statement reads. “Her commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion will further strengthen the center’s mission to provide high-quality, accessible education for all.”
