First-Class Travels: A local executive shares his tips for a Roatan adventure

Surrounded by sparkling turquoise water, Roatan is one of the Caribbean Bay Islands off of Honduras. It’s a favorite destination for MAPP Director of Technology Clayton Samson, who raves about the off-the-beaten-path destination that is “easy and comfortable to navigate once you’re there.”

For the latest issue of Business Report, Samson shares his tips on how to make the most of a trip to the island, which lies on the southern edge of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System—the second-largest barrier reef in the world.

The locals speak English and accept U.S. currency, and its international airport offers nonstop international flights to and from Houston, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, Denver and San Salvador.

For the trip, Samson prefers to stay in an Airbnb in Half Moon Bay, touting its access to a more local experience.

“It is extremely walkable and there are tons of good bars, shops and restaurants that provide a more local experience,” he says. “However, there are a bunch of great resorts in West End if you’re wanting a more all-inclusive resort experience.”
