Airlines working to resume operations at BTR

American, Delta and United were all in the process of restarting their operations at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport on Thursday morning in the aftermath of Hurricane Francine, according to BTR Director of Aviation Mike Edwards.

The three airlines collectively canceled 16 flights on Wednesday. Since the terminating flights could not fly into BTR on Wednesday evening, the airlines canceled some of the first flights out of BTR on Thursday morning.

“To avoid damage to aircraft, the airlines will not leave them on the ground overnight in the path of a TS or hurricane, so that was to be expected,” Edwards says.

A Delta flight, which was scheduled to arrive early Thursday, was delayed. American and Delta had scheduled flights expected to arrive at BTR around 9:30 a.m.

Though the airlines are working to resume normal operations, anyone flying out of BTR should check with their airline regarding flight status before heading to the airport. FlightAware is also a resource that can be used to monitor flight schedules, delays and cancellations.
