‘LaPolitics’: Landry hasn’t spoken to Trump about con-con

While the Landry Administration has made a proposed constitutional convention a focal point of the regular session, and even though the resulting document would be up for ratification on the same ballot as former President Donald Trump, the governor said he has not coordinated with the Republican heavyweight on the issue.

Has he already asked Trump to endorse such a document, should one be approved by delegates?

“No, no, no,” Landry said in a new episode of the LaPolitics Report podcast (Spotify/Apple). Landry said he preferred a proposed constitution be on the fall ballot because the presidential election would draw more voters, based on historic trends. When later asked if he would be willing to bend on the legislation’s timeline and perimeters to satisfy critics, Landry attempted to make a distinction between supporter and lead architect.

“I didn’t set a timeline for this convention,” the governor said, adding those details are up to the Legislature.
