The mother-daughter duo behind Crafted Nibbles BR plans to open their first brick-and-mortar space this fall.

After searching for a building to set up shop for two years, Michelle and Valencia Anderson selected a commercial space formerly occupied by Myla Boutique at 4631 Perkins Road, a few blocks from Sprouts Farmers Market.

At Baton Rouge’s first build-your-own-cheese box bar, customers will be able to order from three different sizes of customized charcuterie boxes with artisan cheeses, charcuterie and accompaniments like local honey, jams, jellies, seasonal fruits and nuts. The build-your-own concept is similar to businesses like Cava, Subway or a salad bar, but Crafted Nibbles BR takes it up a notch with specialty meats, cheeses and produce. The cheese boxes are priced at $30-$65 on average.

“There is a shift and demand to open up storefronts where people can get more crafted and artisan items you won’t find at a standard or local grocery store,” Michelle Anderson says.

The fast-casual cheese box bar will have limited seating for visitors to grab a quick bite or lunch. Crafted Nibbles BR will also sell beverages like mocktails, sparkling water and lemonade. Anderson estimates renovations of the building will cost $60,000.

Since the home business began in 2021, customers have ordered charcuterie boxes and boards online to be delivered. Once the store opens this fall, customers can continue preordering online or they can pick up cheese boxes on demand from the store. The shop will double as a gathering space for hosting workshops, parties and networking events.

In the future, Crafted Nibbles BR plans to add small bites such as salads and sandwiches to the menu. After obtaining an alcohol permit, their goal is to incorporate wine pairings with the cheese boxes.
