As unemployment benefit filings are beginning to rise nationwide, both initial and continued jobless filings in Louisiana dropped last week.
Initial claims in Louisiana dropped to 1,508 for the week ending April 19, a 10% decrease from the previous week. The figures are also 11% lower than the same period last year.
The four-week moving average of initial claims, which smooths out short-term fluctuations and highlights longer-term trends, stayed relatively steady and increased to 1,538 from the previous week’s average of 1,536.
Continued claims in Louisiana also dropped 3% to 10,480. Continued claims are also 5% lower than what they were last year.
