This popular St. Francisville restaurant’s executive chef has stepped away

Dan Dreher, the executive chef of Restaurant 1796 in St. Francisville, has stepped away from his role at the popular eatery, the restaurant announced on social media late last week.

Located on the site of The Myrtles, Restaurant 1796 got its start in 2019. The concept specializes in south Louisiana cuisine cooked in a 10-foot-wide wood-fired hearth.

In the post announcing the news, the restaurant calls Dreher’s departure the “end of an era.”

“We want to extend a heartfelt thank you as we reflect on the six years of loyalty and leadership Chef Dan has brought to Restaurant 1796,” the post reads. “We wish you all the best as you embark on your next chapter and we will look forward to having you in the dining room on the guest side of the hearth.”

It’s currently unclear what that “next chapter” will entail.

Prior to joining Restaurant 1796, Dreher served as the executive chef of Fresh Kitchen, which he co-founded in 2014. Fresh Kitchen’s two Baton Rouge locations were acquired by Lafayette-based Good Eats Kitchen in 2018.
