DHL announced Sunday that it would temporarily stop shipping packages worth more than $800 to customers in the U.S., effective Monday, Fast Company reports.
The move is in reaction to President Donald Trump’s sweeping slate of tariffs, which has impacted supply-chain processes for a slew of items, from iPhones to electric bikes to foreign-manufacturerd cars. The German logistics company in a press release said the changes were because of “recent U.S. Customs regulatory updates,” which have caused DHL to face “multi-day transit delays to the U.S from any origin for shipments with a declared customs value exceeding USD 800.”
The customs updates were instated almost two weeks ago as the Trump administration tried to enforce the new tariffs. The updates require a more time-consuming formal customs process for any package entering the U.S. that’s valued at $800 or more—a major change from the previous restrictions, which only required formal entry processing for packages over $2,500.
