How the Baton Rouge Health District is prescribing innovation

The Baton Rouge landscape is dotted with world-class medical facilities, each a testament to the city’s commitment to health care excellence.

But as Business Report writes in its latest issue, behind the impressive facades lies an even more ambitious vision—one that is being brought to life by the Baton Rouge Health District, a coalition of institutions working to transform the region into a hub of medical innovation and economic opportunity.

Through conversations with the district’s leadership, a picture emerges of an agenda aimed at improving health care outcomes, attracting new investment and addressing broader social determinants of health.

At the core of the Health District’s work are four key focus areas: healthy place, health innovation and research, health education and workforce, and coalition building. R.E.A.C.H.’s aim is to develop the spaces in a way that gives the area a more cohesive character and makes it as easy to access as possible for patients and visitors, says Steven Ceulemans, the Health District’s president and CEO.

“The spaces in between the hospitals should reflect the same character as the quality of care that you receive at those hospitals,” Ceulemans says.
