The first in his family to graduate college, Todd is now the proud holder of four degrees—a bachelor’s in community health, a bachelor’s in nursing, an MBA, and a doctorate of nursing practice in nurse anesthesia. He developed a multimodal pain management protocol at Spine Hospital of Louisiana that reduced opioid usage for the duration of the patient stay by more than 40% for lumbar fusion surgery. In April 2019, he traveled to Cusco, Peru, with the Brandon Kirk Sims Foundation, managing the anesthesia department for 16 knee replacements over three days in a severely underserved community. Todd is also an affiliate faculty member with Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University in the nurse anesthesia doctorate program and an adjunct faculty member with LSU’s MBA program.
Personal motto:
“Win the day.”
Most important career lesson:
Remain humble. Anesthesia is the most humbling thing any human can do. You never have it all figured out.
Most unusual job:
Planting pine trees was my very first job at 15. My mom surprised me the first day of my freshman high school Christmas break by waking me up at 5 a.m. and telling me to wear my boots and dress warm.
