LSU tied for No. 179 in the U.S. News & World Report 2025 college rankings.
That’s five spots above where the university fell on last year’s list, when it ranked No. 185, but three spots below where it fell on 2022’s list, when it ranked No. 176.
LSU received an overall score of 53 out of 100 this year. Among public universities, it tied for No. 97. Its highest-performing asset was its petroleum engineering program, which tied for No. 6 in the country.
Here’s where other Louisiana colleges fell on this year’s list:
- Tulane was the state’s highest-ranking university at No. 63.
- Loyola ranked No. 244.
- Louisiana Tech ranked No. 296.
- UL Monroe ranked No. 352.
- UL Lafayette ranked No. 377.
- Southern University and the University of New Orleans both ranked between numbers 392 and 434.
Among SEC schools, LSU ranked below Vanderbilt (No. 18), the University of Florida (No. 30), the University of Texas at Austin (No. 30), the University of Georgia (No. 46), Texas A&M (No. 51), Auburn (No. 105), the University of Missouri (No. 109), the University of Tennessee (No. 109), the University of South Carolina (No. 121), the University of Oklahoma (No. 132), the University of Alabama (No. 136), the University of Kentucky (No. 152) and the University of Mississippi (No. 171). LSU outranked only the University of Arkansas (No. 189) and Mississippi State (No. 214).
For the second year in a row, Princeton, MIT and Harvard claimed the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.
