Gratis workouts done poolside
Poolside yoga made a splash in the Capital City last summer, and this hot fitness trend is back! Till the end of June, Lululemon Athletica will sponsor a complimentary class every Saturday, weather permitting, at 9 a.m. on the pool deck at the Renaissance Hotel on Bluebonnet Boulevard. Participants at this refreshing hour-long stretch will need mats, which are available on-site for those who don’t bring one. For more information, email Lululemon Athletica at batonrouge-showroom@lululemon.com.
All style, no cuts
Blow-dry bars have caught on big in major cities, offering women on the go a hairstyle refresher, and Rachel Helmke thinks Baton Rouge women could use a break as well. "I always said, if I won the lottery, I'd pay someone to wash and dry and style my hair every day," she says. Helmke opened Bleaux Blow Dry Bar in March on Lee Drive near the Highland Village Shopping Center. The shop doesn't do cuts, but instead offers quick styling, blowouts and more for women who are preparing for a special event or just feeling in the mood for something new. During their visit to the salon, patrons may enjoy wine, champagne or mimosas—"We wanted it to feel very metropolitan," Helmke says. The shop also offers classes on style techniques such as braiding. —Benjamin Leger
