Real estate recap: Rouzan lots now on sale ... Petco interested in Perkins locale ... LSU Foundation buys 38.6 acre site

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

On the market: The first 26 lots of the Rouzan development went on sale. The lots will become the "Mimosa District" along an extension of the existing Mimosa Street. JTS development manager Tommy Spinosa III envisions townhouses of 2,000 to 4,000 square feet in the district, and says lot widths are from 35 feet up to 60 feet. Lots will range in price from $70,000 to $200,000. The developer says putting in the infrastructure could take about four months, after which home construction could begin.

Marking their territory? Petco, a national pet store retailer, has expressed interest in joining the re-emerging Acadian-Perkins Plaza development, says Jon Claitor, co-owner of the shopping center. Locally Petco has a store on Siegen Lane and another on South Range Avenue in Denham Springs. Petco requested 12,500 square feet for a new store. Claitor says that if Southdowns Discount Liquor and Cigarettes and The Caterie decide not to return, the former spaces could be formatted to meet Petco's needs. But

Claitor also says the 30,000-square-foot anchor space could be negotiated. Plans are also in the works to move The Caterie and Southdowns Liquor into the old CVS location, although no lease has been signed yet.

Use for site not yet revealed: The LSU Property Foundation has purchased a 38.6-acre tract next to its South Campus for $3.86 million. David Hardy, an attorney for the foundation, says the purchase extends the university's holdings between GSRI Avenue and Nicholson Drive. The land is adjacent to a 60-acre tract LSU bought in late 2007 for $6 million. Officials with the LSU Foundation say it will be up to the university to decide what to do with the land.
