Why do you do what you do?

I was blessed by inheriting my father’s assets, knowledge and wisdom with regards to real estate. I watched him work from the time I was a little girl through college. It never crossed my mind to ever do anything else but follow in his footsteps. Every spare moment I had in college at LSU was spent at his office learning.

What is your greatest professional accomplishment?

I think my greatest professional accomplishment was developing my shopping center on Corporate Boulevard. I drove past the Bocage tennis courts every day. I never dreamed anything bigger than a sidewalk could fit on the site. I really wanted to do something in the area. At the time, across the street was all pasture land. I don’t know what prompted me to finally call the listing agent. I think I was more or less just curious to find out what they were thinking could fit on that tiny site. I was shocked that afternoon when I learned the square footage. Immediately I began the process of developing the site. I ended up with 3 additional parcels and got my brothers on board. It turned into a family project and is now a 35,000 square foot shopping center.

Who do you most admire in the local business community and why?

The person I admire the most in our community is Mr. Lee Berg. I have had the good fortune to work with Mr. Berg professionally as well as through charity organizations. I have to say; I have never met someone as successful as he that is as friendly, happy, accessible and generous as him. Baton Rouge is so fortunate to have him and his family as residents.

What is your greatest hope for Baton Rouge?

I hope that Baton Rouge will continue its trend towards increasing tourism, rebuilding our downtown, and rebranding the city. I hope the Mayor will try again to pass the Audubon development.

What is your greatest fear for Baton Rouge?

My greatest fear is that some of the people in Baton Rouge are going to cause us to miss great opportunities because they are fearful of change, weary of politicians, or misinformed. We need to give BR every opportunity to grow, create jobs, increase revenues, improve the schools and be able to pay our teachers and policeman. We have too much to offer.
