MONROE (AP) -- University of Louisiana at Monroe President Jim Cofer has applied to be president of the University of Louisiana System.

Cofer sent an e-mail to faculty Friday informing them of his application.

The University of Louisiana System board of commissioners has said it hopes to replace previous system President Sally Clausen by late June.

Clausen is leaving the position to take over as the next commissioner of higher education with the Louisiana Board of Regents at the end of June.
