More than 90% of the people who responded to a Forum 35 survey say they support tax incentives to create an arts and entertainment district in downtown Baton Rouge. The survey was taken in May and included both an online poll of Forum 35 members and paper ballots at a (re)Inventing Redstick seminar. More than 250 people participated in the survey. The poll also found strong support for an open container ordinance: 86% of the respondents say they would like to be able to take alcoholic beverages outside of downtown restaurants and bars. The results were split on what elements were most needed downtown: Live local music was the choice of most of the (re)Inventing Redstick participants, while the online respondents said there is a need for more restaurants. Affordable housing was seen as the best way to get more people living downtown, and most of the participants said rents should be in the $601- to $800-a-month range. --Timothy Boone

I agree with fourx5 - change is slow. Metro Council really needs to consider open containers downtown - so we can compete with Lafayette. I wish Baton Rouge's Downtown Night Life was as alive as Lafayette's Downtown Night Life.
