Why do you do what you do?

Because, despite what you may hear, it is a great honor and privilege to be a lawyer.

What is your greatest professional accomplishment?

Becoming a member of the Louisiana Bar.

What was your first job?

Washing cars in my parents’ yard for $1.

What is the best advice you've ever received?

Mind your own business (advice which many of us could well take and follow).

Who do you most admire in the local business community and why?

John Noland. Although John owns many businesses, you seldom see his name attached to them, nor do you see him seeking publicity for all the great work he does for our community.

If you could have any job other than your own, what would it be?

Radio talk show host.

What is the greatest personal or professional obstacle you've overcome?

Learning not to take myself so seriously.

If you started over, what would you do differently?

Pay more attention to history and political science classes in high school and college. All that stuff you thought you’d never need in life, you do need.

What is your prescription for life?

If you’re not laughing, you’re not living.

What book are you currently reading?

Nature Girl by Carl Hiassen

If you could have dinner with any three living people, who would they be? (Authors? Leaders?)

Gary Larson, Larry MacMurtry and Stephen King. Weird, funny and scary all at one table.

Who would play you in a movie?

Hugh Laurie

What do you do to unwind?

Sail my boat, work in my yard and wash my car. And enjoy adult beverages.

What is the most expensive purchase you've made for yourself?

My sailboat, the Defense Rests.

What is your favorite weekend activity?

Sailing.

What's your theme song?

You can’t always get what you want (but if you try sometimes, . . .)

What's your favorite spot in Baton Rouge?

My back yard.

How do you take your coffee/tea?

Don’t drink either. Tab is my coffee and my tea.

What is your favorite movie? TV show? Band?

Blazing Saddles. All in the Family and Seinfeld. The Beatles.

What is your favorite gadget?

My Smokette. I got it from Goodwood Hardware and it makes outstanding ribs.

What is something that you can't live without?

Laughter.

If you could change one thing about Baton Rouge, what would it be?

That we, as a business community, would give more support and donate more time to our public school system.

What is your greatest hope for Baton Rouge?

That everyone, not just the few, treat it with the love and respect it deserves. Baton Rouge is a great city and sometimes we don’t hear about the positive aspects of our community.

What is your greatest fear for Baton Rouge?

That we’ll continue to discount the importance of our public school system and that old attitudes about Baton Rouge will continue to prevail.
