Restaurant to open in The Blues Room downtown
Downtown has been heating up for some time, but the real Hot Stuff is just arriving. Owner Virginia Goff says she's hoping to have Hot Stuff Restaurant open by Dec. 1 at 244 Lafayette St., where she will share the lease with The Blues Room. "It's going to stay a bar at night," Goff says, "and it'll be a full-service restaurant during the day." Goff, who has worked in the restaurant business for 25 years, says Hot Stuff will offer home-style cooking for breakfast and lunch and appetizers at night. Breakfast will include homemade biscuits, gravy and omelets, while sandwiches, salads and steaks will be served for lunch. Renovations are ongoing, Goff says, but the contractors have already added more lighting to the dining room area and repainted the building. They still have to run a new gas line and adjust the plumbing, she says. Goff, who left her management job at Frank's Restaurant in June, says she is eager to start working again with her staff of eight or nine family members and former co-workers. "But I'm most excited about seeing all the customers I've been used to seeing for the past 25 years on a daily basis," Goff says. "The interaction of my friends is what I'm most excited about." —Rachel Alexander
