B.R. named among top 'emerging entrepreneurial hubs' in U.S.
Baton Rouge is one of five cities spotlighted in the August issue of Entrepreneur magazine as having "laid the foundation for small companies to find the investors and operational footing they need to grow big." Along with Baton Rouge, the other cities said to be "emerging entrepreneurial hubs" in the U.S. are Tucson, Ariz.; Norfolk, Va.; Lincoln, Neb.; and Corvallis, Ore. The cities for the feature were selected by Shane Reiser, co-founder of Startup Genome, a database of startups that has been cataloging founders, investors and deals since 2011. "Baton Rouge has a lot of ingredients that are finally coming together," Reiser says in a brief profile of the city. He cites StepOne Ventures, the new LSU AgCenter food incubator, the Level UP Lab video game incubator and thriving film industry as a few examples. The magazine is on newsstands, but the full article is not yet available online. —Staff report
