YWCA of B.R. taps 'rock star' from Mich. as new CEO
The YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge has hired a new CEO from Michigan whom interim CEO Judi Bishop calls "a rock star among YWCA leaders." Jennifer Shoub recently resigned as CEO of the YWCA of Kalamazoo, where she has served for the last 21 years, and will begin her new job in Baton Rouge on Oct. 27, Bishop says. "I've known her for 20 years, and we've worked together on several national initiatives," Bishop says. "She's just an incredible woman who will really move this organization forward. She has a master's [degree] in public administration, and she has a very strong background in financial management, fundraising, strategic planning and board development." Bishop says Shoub will be in Baton Rouge next week to begin meeting with local officials and look for a house. "As much as we regret her leaving, we know that Baton Rouge is gaining a tenacious and courageous advocate for the YWCA's mission of eliminating racism and empowering women," says YWCA of Kalamazoo board Chairwoman Wendy Van Peenan in a statement. Bishop says she will return to her home in Fort Worth, Texas, about a week after Shoub starts. "Actually, I've been retired for three years, but I've flunked retirement so far," she laughs. "I've really enjoyed my time here, and I couldn't be happier about the direction the organization is headed." —Steve Sanoski
