B.R. largely still with power … for now
While Hurricane Isaac has caused more than 500,000 Entergy customers in Louisiana to lose power, much of the Baton Rouge area this morning had yet to feel the full impact of the storm. Indeed, there were widespread outages across East Baton Rouge Parish, as of 9 a.m., but the majority are problems affecting fewer than 50 customers.
In all, just over 22,000 Entergy customers are reportedly without power in the parish. Compare that to hard-hit Jefferson and Orleans parishes, where more than 324,000 customers are without electricity. Roughly 64% of all reported Entergy outages this morning are in those New Orleans-area parishes.
With the brunt of the storm still several hours away from our area, the largest concentrated outages this morning are in north Baton Rouge, according to Entergy's website tracking outages. Much of the area just south of Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport is without power, as is another swath running from the Delmont neighborhood to Howell Park.
In south Baton Rouge, much of the Old Goodwood subdivision is without power, as well as a section of the Broadmoor subdivision that hugs Sherwood Forest Boulevard, between Old Hammond Highway and Florida Boulevard.
There are also numerous outages in Southdowns, primarily between Stanford Avenue and Lee Drive. Other notable areas with significant outages include Steele Place and the section of Oak Hills Place running along Highland Road between Bluebonnet Boulevard and Siegen Lane.
In Ascension Parish, much of Prairieville and Port Vincent are without power. In Livingston Parish, there are few reported outages in the larger cities of Denham Springs and Walker.
Entergy is not providing firm timelines on when power is expected to be restored but is estimating that much of the areas without power will be back online by Thursday daylight hours. Of course, those estimates will likely be pushed back, as the storm is expected to make its way to the Baton Rouge area later this afternoon.
