Pelican House asks for patio seating at CitiPlace

Restaurant owners Garrett Morgan and Chris Juge say they plan to bring a business class bar and plantation-style atmosphere to the old location of Macaroni Grill CitiPlace when they open The Pelican House Tap Room and Whisky Bar by late November. On Monday, the duo will make its case to the city-parish Planning Commission for a walled-in patio area of 2,800 square feet facing Barnes & Noble. They're unsure of the number of seating the patio would provide. "We'll have to see what the fountain will allow for," Juge says. Last month the Planning Commission voted not to approve The Pelican House for rezoning for a lounge; however, the Metro Council's zoning committee on Wednesday night approved that application. Juge says The Pelican House will feature Louisiana-themed plate lunches and a relaxed ambience that is favorable for business meetings. The proposed patio area would take out 10 existing parking spaces. The Planning Commission meets at 5 p.m. Monday on the third floor of City Hall, 222 St. Louis St. The full agenda is here. —Adam Pearson
