Hello all! I hope this finds you doing just smashingly. Summer is winding down and the weather is turning cool and crisp, well I wish it was anyway, and I am turning my head to some fall fun. Even though summer never ends, I am going to act like the guy who wears a sweater the first day that it is 60 degrees outside and at least pretend my brains are not boiling. So, without further adieu, I wanted to give you a quick list of 3 fitness things to look forward to in the next couple months.
1. PLAY DIRTY Adventure Race: The brainchild of Dave Poleto, this family friendly adventure race held at the State Fairgrounds, this is a great way to get out with the whole family and do something different. Obstacle races are popping up all over the place and this is a great event. Featuring a mud pit, hay bail mountain and a mystery cave, the course meanders 3 miles and has 12 obstacles. A mini muckers mile is also available for the kids! At the least you will be wet and so, hopefully, cooler. playdirtyadventure.com
2. Woman's Half Marathon/Louisiana Marathon: Our city now has 3 quality half marathons, or at least will, and while it may seem like a little early for these December and January events, the reality is that training starts for folks over the next couple of weeks. Each race will have shorter distances with the Woman's race featuring a 10k and The Louisiana Marathon having a Half, 5k and Kids Marathon program. womanshalfmarathon.com thelouisianamarathon.com
3. RIVER ROUX TRIAHTLON: For the more adventurous athletes out there, the first half iron distance triathlon will be held in New Roads on November 10th. Featuring a ride over the Audubon Bridge (twice) and a swim in False river, this 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run is capped at 500. The city of New Roads would love to become the Leadville of Louisiana. I for one hope so!
Finally, a quick note on formatting for these posts. I have been toying with more video, but don't know what you would like to see. If you have any ideas, email me at patrickfellows@gmail.com

Bad Guys, Good Eats! Pop-Up Dinner at Restaurant IPO
Chef and 225 contributor Jay D. Ducote and Chef Chris Wadsworth hosted the Bad Guys, Good Eats! dinner at Restaurant IPO Wednesday night. The dinner was themed around famous movie villains, pairing cocktails and ales with plates of food resembling famous baddies like The Joker, Lord Voldemort, Hannibal Lector, and many others. The highlights of the night were the three middle courses—a black bean soup laced with blood sausage to signify Lord Voldemort, a brace of coneys on black eyed peas resembling Sauron, and lamb medallions atop a fava bean puree to pay homage to the famous favorite of Hannibal Lector.
Summer Crush
Elizabeth Arkley Hammett, a local nursing student and Fur Ball co-coordinator, and her husband Grey Hammett III, who works in commercial real estate, will take you through our summer guide. And they'll look good while doing it, too. Where noted, their clothes and accessories are available from local retailers.
Better Block BR
On Saturday the two blocks between Bedford and Beverly drives on April 13, 2013, residents will get to see a model of what Government Street could look like if we push local and state officials to update the roadway to a safer, more "complete street" model.
