Speculation swirls about next LSU president




LED Secretary Stephen Moret didn't dispel rumors Wednesday that he could be a candidate for the LSU System president's job, The (Monroe) News-Star reports. Moret's name first began circulating as a possible candidate last year—even before the LSU Board of Supervisors fired former President John Lombardi in April. Speculation about his candidacy arose again this week after interim President William Jenkins said LSU might tap a nontraditional candidate who didn't have traditional academic credentials. "LSU has had a transformational impact on my life and is one of Louisiana's most important economic assets, so I have a great interest in its future," Moret, an LSU graduate, says in an email to The News-Star. "Accordingly, I'm delighted that the LSU Board of Supervisors is kicking off a national search to find the best person to be the next president of the LSU System." Moret went on to say, "I'm totally focused on doing the best job that I can for the people of Louisiana in my current role."
