News anchor Young resigns from WJBO
Clay Young, co-anchor of the morning news show at WJBO 1150 AM, officially signed off from the radio station this morning at the end of his 9 a.m. program to focus more on his own business and family. Young says he's been working from 12 to 17 hours a day between his radio duties and his marketing and public relations company, Clay Young Enterprises, since taking the WJBO position 16 months ago alongside co-host Kevin Meeks. Young says he submitted his resignation about a month ago, with options for returning to what he considers the premiere talk radio station in Baton Rouge. "I'm truly leaving with the door open in both ways," he says. "They certainly don't want to see me go. But it's kind of a priority." Michael Hudson, a regional market manager for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, says Young's position hasn't been filled yet with a permanent co-host. "We'll be putting various talent on board," Hudson says of the 5 to 9 a.m. program, noting WJBO may retest some of the candidates it had previously brought on air before hiring Young full-time. "We're always testing new talent," Hudson says. Before Young took the role, he had provided political analysis each Thursday morning for WJBO. Hudson says Young could be returning some Thursdays to continue providing that analysis. —Adam Pearson
