News alert: 'Honey Badger' no longer on LSU football team
Cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, better known to LSU fans as the "Honey Badger," is no longer an LSU Tiger, head coach Les Miles has just announced at a pre-practice press conference. Miles tells reporters Mathieu violated both team and school rules, leading to the dismissal from the team, but maintains he cannot elaborate on the details due to a privacy policy. "I think he's still (got) a bright future; I think he can accomplish the goals he has set for himself," Miles says. "It's not going to be easy, but it's doable ... We're going to miss the guy." Mathieu was a Heisman Trophy finalist last season, helping the Tigers to a 13-1 season, in which the team's only loss came in the BCS title game to SEC rival Alabama. LSU enters this season ranked No. 1 in the coaches' poll. The AP college football poll will be released Aug. 18. "The football team has to go on," Miles says.
