EBR building permits rise 17% in July

A total of 1,995 building permits were issued in July for projects across East Baton Rouge Parish, a 17% increase from the 1,711 issued in July a year ago, according to the latest report form the city-parish Department of Public Works. The report says 79 commercial projects were permitted in July, up from 62 a year ago. The largest of them is the 12,706-square-foot Siegen Place Shopping Center, to be built at 6555 Siegen Lane, near the intersection of Industriplex Boulevard; it's valued at approximately $2.4 million. Residential projects were also up on the month to 192, from 109 in July 2011. Year-to-date, building permits issued this year in the parish are up 3%, at 13,227, compared to 12,853 through the first seven months of last year.
