Baton Rougeans burn the competition together in Canadian football
Two former high school football standouts from Baton Rouge are tearing up the CFL as a quarterback-slotback duo for the Edmonton Eskimos. In Carey Koch, a former Dunham running back and University of Virginia player, quarterback Steven Jyles has found a solid receiver. In fact, the Edmonton Sun reports Koch has become Jyles' go-to man in his first season on the team. Jyles, a former Glen Oaks High School athlete and UL-Monroe player, is leading the Eskimos with 993 yards passing and three touchdowns through the first five games of the CFL season. With three wins and two losses now, the Eskimos beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 23-22 on Thursday night, led by Koch's two receptions for 38 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Koch, 25, is listed at 6 feet, 198 pounds, on the team's website. Jyles, 29, is listed at 6-foot-1, 211 pounds. To read more about Koch and Jyles, click here. —Adam Pearson
